The Expat's Guide to Vietnam

About The Foothold

Our main contributor is Daniel Fischer, a German citizen who has lived and worked in Vietnam, mainly Ho Chi Minh City, since 2016. A linguist by trade, Daniel has been teaching German and English in Vietnam.

We provide information about Vietnam that matters to foreigners: visa rules, tax obligations, banking, property, the practical texture of daily life – or that we simply think will entertain our readers. We go through official announcements, the Vietnamese-language press, English websites, and other sources. Where a topic needs more than reading, we draw on Vietnamese professionals and fellow expats who know the terrain firsthand.

The Foothold wants to be a one-stop shop for expats. We provide general information and, wherever possible, point to the places and people that can fill you in on the details. We don’t give legal, tax, financial, or professional advice.
